Where it all really began...

This is the moment the planes crashed into the twin towers....there is no footage that a journalist could film post the incidence that can describe what actually happened here. This is where Citizen journalism really came into its own and it is events such as these that really define what citizen journalism stands for in most peoples minds...not blogs or have your says. It is in situations like this that Citizen journalists are worth their weight in gold to the news industry and for all the negative elements that come out of it - for pieces like this it all becomes worth it...

Yes...I believe this was the first instance of citizen journalism hitting it big in terms of TV coverage. The fact that there were NO reporters on the scene as it happened was a massive factor.

But as Natalie has pointed out in previous posts i think the concept of citizen journalism has been around for a while. Be it through pamphleteers or photographs or whatever. But these just didn't have the impact that citizen journalism has today.

Perhaps it would have if the technology we have access too was around then but of course we will never know the answer to this question.

But yes, I agree that 9/11 was when it 'really' started It was when the world took notice of citizen journalism. And as technology improves its going to get easier and easier for citizen journalists to get involved in the world of journalism
